Trillions or billions? Reassessing the potential for European institutional investment in emerging markets and developing economies

Co-hosted by EDFI and ODI Europe, the event looks at challenges and opportunities to mobilise institutional capital into EMDEs.

The EDFI-ODI Europe event “Trillions or billions? Reassessing the potential for European institutional investment in emerging markets and developing economies” will facilitate and inform a more holistic and system-based discussion of the challenges and opportunities to mobilise institutional capital into Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs) amongst policymakers, practitioners, and investors. The event will explore the role of governments, multilateral development banks (MDBs), development finance institutions (DFIs) and regulators in helping insurance companies and pension funds to allocate more assets in EMDEs. This gathering will also provide the opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by the new EU package on sustainable finance.

The afternoon gathering will begin with a presentation from ODI Global – Principal Research Fellow, Samantha Attridge and Senior Research Officer, Bianca Getzel on the recent study “Trillions or billions? Reassessing the potential for European institutional investment in emerging markets and developing economies”. This will be followed by two moderated dialogues which will include experts from DFIs, pensions funds, insurance companies, asset managers, advisors, credit rating agencies and EU institutions to delve into the opportunities to accelerate efforts to harness the booming interest in sustainable finance and shift private capital at scale to better support the needs of people and the planet.

This in-person event will be preceded by a light lunch from 13:00-14:30 CET and followed by a reception.
